In actual fact it is creating a large stir on the Internet and it just won’t quit. The HCG Diet, an extreme diet that involves daily injections of HCG along with a 500 calorie meal plan. So what is HCG? It is a hormone produced during pregnancy to aid the baby’s grow. This hormone is human chorionic gonadotropin or in short HCG. So how does HCG help with weight-loss? Supporters of the HCG diet believe that HCG will “reset your metabolism”. They have even claimed to lose almost a pound a day. It suppresses their appetite and doesn’t make them feel week. HCG can be administered by either taking drops, pills or even injections. Here are a few things you may need to consider before going on to the HCG diet.
This was a warning given by the FDA. The FDA has approved this drug for treatment of infertility for men and woman. Not as a weight-loss drug! HCG requires a doctor and a prescription to dispense. It has not been approved for over the counter use. Most HCG supplements sold in the market contain no real HCG. It is also not homeopathic. HCG does not appear in the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia. Any drug not approved by the FDA is illegal for weight-loss. Anybody that sells it over the counter could be breaking the law.
Any body that follows a diet with such a strict calorie control, will very likely lose weight. Experts say that a person should never go below 1200 calories a day. The HCG diet requires you to have 500 calories a day. This will cause serious malnutrition. You will also have the risk of having gallstones, irregular heartbeats and very little electrolytes. Not to mention the side effects of taking HCG. It has been known to cause irritability, depression, fatigue, edema, and a very high risk of having blood clots which can block the blood vessels. Purchasing HCG is extremely expensive. No guarantee that you will be getting the real drug.
HCG Diet Meal Plan
Breakfast – Tea or Coffee. As much as you like. Tablespoon Milk. No sugar and you can drink as much water as you like.
Lunch and Dinner –
Meat: 100g (no visible fat)
Beef, veal, chicken breast, white fish, lobster, crab, and shrimp.
Vegetables: one serving only
Spinach, chard, chicory, green salad, tomatoes, celery, fennel, onions, red radish, cucumber, asparagus and cabbage
One breadstick (grissino) or Melba toast
Fruit – apple, lemon, orange, half a grapefruit or a handful of strawberries.
Other factors to keep in mind when on the HCG diet:
If you cheat on the HCG diet, you can set the path straight by only eating 6 apples and any amount of water for the following 24 hours. The HCG diet also requires you not to have any medication or any cosmetics that contain fatty substances. No lotions that are fatty. No suntan lotion/oils, no massages, no aspirin and no birth control pills. You are only allowed to wear lipstick, eyebrow pencil and powder.
